Question: How do I print on both sides of a page?
Answer: Printing on both sides of a page, or duplex printing, is a semi-advanced function of many laser jet printers. Although not all printers are capable of duplex printing, many of the HP printers supported by AIT do have this feature. Also, please note that not all printers will display the same printing preference windows, so this tutorial may not apply directly to your printer. Since the majority of AIT-supported printers are manufactured by HP, those particular settings are the focus of this tutorial.
- Print as normal in any application (usually File > Print). This will load a Print window (as seen below).
- In the Print window, click the button labeled either Properties or Print Preferences.
- This will load up a window with several options displayed at the top of the window under different tabs. Depending on the type of printer, the option for duplex printing may be located on the current tab or under another tab. Since this walk through is geared more towards HP printers, locate and click the tab titled Finishing to see duplex printing options. You may want to modify the settings in order to get the desired type of duplex print, but usually just checking Print On Both Sides will work. Click OK when settings are adjusted as desired.

- Click OK to print.
That’s all that there is to duplex printing! Of course, this doesn’t directly work with non-HP printers, but duplex printing is a similar process across printer types. It may be referred to as "duplex printing", “page binding” or it may be be found under another heading. All printer manufacturers design their print menus and printer capabilities differently, so you’ll simply need to play around and discover what your printer can and cannot do in most cases.
